New products and innovative solutions for the elevator industry were presented within the framework of 17th international congress on Vertical Transportation Technologies, Elevcon 2008, that took place for the first time this year in Greece and particularly in Thessaloniki.
The congress - which took place June 11-13 - was co-organised and exclusively sponsored by Kleemann, following an invitation by the International Association of Elevator Engineers (IAEE).
The theme of the organization was the technological advances in the field of elevators and escalators, whereas 48 specialized themes were presented by professionals of the field coming from 15 countries. The sessions were attended by approximately 200 conventioneers.
The object of the presentations covered significant questions of the field of the elevators and escalators. Special attention was given to the theme of energy consumption, the evolution of electronic systems regarding the operation control of the elevator, controlling the traffic at busy buildings, elevator use at cases of emergency, and new advances of technology in hydraulic and traction elevators.
It is noted that Kleemann took part to the congress with five presentations in total concerning the comparison of the basic elevator types, in terms of environmental and user friendliness, the conclusions from the testing of earthquake resistant elevators at the seismic simulator of the National Technical University of Athens, as well as the European experience in the use of elevators in emergency cases. In cooperation with Aristotle University of Thessaloniki two special themes were presented that concerned automatic elevator design and automatic order intake system, using the web.
Innovation Competition.
At the same time with the sessions of the congress, Kleemann in cooperation with IAEE organized a visit and a guided tour of the conventioneers at the facilities of the company at the Industrial Area of Kilkis. Within the framework of the visit there was presented the awards for the winners of the Innovation Competition of Kleemann having as a theme the elevator. The competition was addressed to any interested party wishing to share their knowledge and ideas, and also express openly their opinion about the elevator and its future, by submitting articles, proposals or essays. All university or technical school students and graduates were eligible, as well as research fellows - school professors - individually or as groups. Particularly, two competitions took place, the first one open to the public and the other addressed to the company employees. The results of the competition of the audience are the following:
-First prize to Mr. Karakatsanis Theoklitos, titled "Automatic prediction of elevator failures" (4.000 euros).
-Second prize to Mr. Pappas Nikolaos titled "Magnetic propulsion of the cabin" and Mr. Hatzisavvas Apostolos and Ventouris Emmanouel titled "Elevator using electromagnets", (Total 2.000 euros).
-Third price to Mr. Borg Angelo titled "A new concept of vertical travel" (1.000 euros).
-Also awarded were seven further awards of 500 euros value each.
At the competition of the company the winners were Mr. Ioannis Dinoudis, Mr. Iraklis Hatziparasidis and Mr. Dimitris Kominis who won trips in Greece and abroad.
